All Well and Good is a tragicomic novel about a woman who reluctantly finds herself responsible for a group of people who have lost their way in life.

When her husband admits to have cheated on her yet again, Julia decides to leave him, and suddenly ends up out on the street. She meets a young man who tells her about an old lady he knows who is in hospital in a coma. Julia can live in her large villa in the meantime, but she must take care of her every now and then.

Once she’s seen the house, Julia accepts the offer, but gradually it dawns on her that she has become the pivot of a very complicated and extensive household, full of colorful characters: a depressed gardener who only returns every day for another cold beer, an illegal Kurdish refugee who is a fantastic cook, a hairdresser who has her salon in the house, and a girl who was taken in by Mrs Smit after being neglected and abused at home.

Will she be up to this task? And how much does she want to help these people, when her own life is in ruins?
