Loes Riphagen (1983) grew up between animals on a farm in the small Dutch village Oene. Alongside her twin she left for Rotterdam to study at the Willem de Kooning Academie. At the moment she works en lives in Amsterdam.
Loes Riphagen made her debut with Bedroom Beasties in 2008. Her happy and cheeky illustrations gathers attention from press, public, and several juries. Animals Home Alone won the Flag & Pennant Prize in 2010, was selected for the White Ravens in 2010 and was a featured title of the Dutch Children’s Book Week in 2010. Buzz off, Bluebottle! was nominated for the European Design Award in 2014. Superheroes was a featured title of the Dutch Children’s Book Week in 2011 and nominated for the European Design Award in 2011. Bedroom Beasties was nominated for the Dutch Children’s Bookstore Prize in 2009 and A Trunk for a Nose won a silver medal at the European Design Award in 2016. In 2013 she made the special picture book Zzz for the Dutch Children’s Book Week.
Loes is praised for her beautiful illustrations and attention for detail. Her work has been published in several countries including France, Russia, Germany, the USA, Latvia, Finland, Denmark, China, Korea, Portugal, Japan, and Slovenia.
